Prof. Dr. Luiz Eugênio A. M. Mello: Medical doctor, PhD, in Molecular Biology, and post-doctorate degree in Neurophysiology from UCLA. Professor at UNIFESP, where he teaches Physiology and works in the field of acupuncture, neural plasticity, regenerative medicine, sleep, and epilepsy.

 

 

Profa Dr. Eliana Rodrigues

Graduation in Biology, máster degree in Geografy, and PhD. In Science from the UNIFESP. Presently assistant professor at the Ethno-pharmacology  Studies Centre of the same University.
 

Profa Dra. Anaflávia O. Freire is a medical doctor graduated from the Federal University of Goiás in 1997, with master and doctoral degrees from UNIFESP (2001 and 2004). She obtained a post-doctoral degree for her study on the medical aspects of sleep. She also specialized in Acupuncture at UNIFESP, and presently works with the treatment of obstructive apnea during sleep by means of acupuncture.

 

Prof. Marcos Rojo Rodrigues: Graduation in  Physical Education from USP,  degree in Yoga from the Kaivalyadhama Institute, and master in Neurology from USP. Coordinator of the post-graduation course in Yoge of UniFMU, and yoga instructor of the USP Sport Center

 (CEPEUSP) , and of  Associação Palas Athena.

 

Prof. Lia Diskin: Journalist. Studied the Upanishads at the Vedanta Society in Uttar Pradesh, India and specialized in the philosophers Nagarjuna and Kamala Shila at the Centre for Tibetan Studies of the Library of Tibetan Works and Archives in Dharamsala, India. Co-founder of the  Associação Palas Athena, having received from  UNESCO a letter of acknowledgement for her activities in the field of  

 

Prof. Dr. Elisa H. Kozasa: Graduated in Biology from USP, máster and PhD in Psychobiology from UNIFESP, researcher of the Behavioral Medicine Unit of the Department of Psychobiology of UNIFESP.  Professor of the Health Department of  Universidade  Nove de Julho. Research Fellow of the Mind and Life Summer Research Institute 2004/2005.

 

Dr Paulo Tarso Lima: Medical Doctor  and coordinator of the Integrative and Complementary Medicine Area of the Oncology Program at the Hospital Israelita Albert Einstein, and fellow of the Integrative Medicine Program of the Arizona University.

 

Ruy Paulo D'Elia Nunes: is a medical doctor, psychiatrist and psychotherapist, sanitarist, and epidemiologist. Works in the field of clinical psychiatry and public health, with experience in the management of mental and public health. Presently coordinates the team dealing with Non-infectious Diseases and Agravating Factors at the Centre for Diseases Control of the Municipal Health Secretary of São Paulo.

 

Luiz Guilherme Corrêa Neto: Luiz Guilherme Corrêa Neto is a medical doctor, and has also graduated in Philosophy from USP. He specialized in Psychiatry, Homeopathy, and Ayurveda. In annual visits to India he maintains close relationship with institutions as the Gujarat Ayurved University and the Arya Vaidya Pitam Trust. He teaches Basic Attention to Health at the USP Medical School, and is also coordinator of the Dhanvantari Clinic, decidated to the practice and teaching of Ayurveda.

 

Stephen Little

Physicist from Ireland is a qualified teacher of Mindfulness meditation focussed on health and has seventeen years of experience in meditation practice. A graduate of the “Breathworks” Pain Managemente Course in Manchester, England. He is an ordained Buddhist and meditation teacher, and is currently teaching Mindfulness skills to cancer patients as a part of the new Integrative Medicine programme at the Albert Einstein Hospital in São Paulo.

 

 

Léo Matos, Ph.D., is a psychologist. He was professor at the University of Copenhagen, Supervisor of the Psychiatric Hospital Hutoniemi Sairaala (Vaasa, Finland) and invited professor of the School of Medicine of Mexico. Léo Matos has given conferences and seminars in Europe, Asia, Australia and on the North- and South American continents and has published extensiverly in scientific journals.
He has lived seven years with Tibetan Lamas and has been integrating Tibetan Buddhist Psychology with Western psychology.

Goals: Disseminate scientific studies on Traditional Medicine and contemplative practices.
Introduction: Contemplative practices have been object of scientific research for several decades, and are recently under the spotlights of the media, mainly due to their efficacy in countering modern life stress and conditions such as anxiety and depression. Moreover, such practices seem to contribute, for example, to enhance attention and concentration, as well as states of serenity and calm.

On the other hand, there are evidences that Traditional Medicines can contribute to prevent and treat many diseases, especially those considered of chronic nature such as atherosclerosis, rheumatic and inflammatory conditions, high cholesterol, asthma, diabetes, cancer, and digestive diseases, among others. In several parts of India and Nepal, and also in the West, there are clinics offering these treatments.
